ABOUT VICKI HUNT

“It has been my honor to work with the people of the Acacia District to build a stronger community – together. As your Councilmember, I will continue to increase number of police officers to improve public safety; carry on attracting new businesses and support existing businesses in Old Town; champion quality construction of residential and commercial building in Acacia; and improve our local amenities including bringing shade structures to the lake at Pioneer Park. Together, we have accomplished a lot, but there is more to be done. I would be honored to have your vote.” 

A history of leading Peoria

  • Served 15 years on Peoria City Council
  • Served two terms Vice Mayor
  • Former owner of two successful downtown Peoria businesses
  • Resident of Old Town for 26 years
  • Retired Peoria High School Teacher

Supporting Public Safety – Reducing Crime

  • Enhanced successful Community Paramedicine program 
  • Added Rescue194 bringing a total of 5 ambulances to Peoria 
  • Invested in body cameras for all police officers 
  • Secured new vehicles & equipment for public safety, code enforcement, & parks personnel
  • Added additional School Resource Officers 
  • Launched dedicated homeless outreach effort
  • Added a misdemeanor repeat offender program

Improving Acacia’s Quality of Life – Revitalizing Neighborhoods

  • Opened Valleywise Comprehensive Health Center in Old Town 
  • Secured the repainting 36,000 linear feet of walls covered by graffiti 
  • Secured 37 miles of neighborhood street improvements 
  • Opened 14 new restaurants in Peoria during Covid 
  • Helped place Peoria High School’s Old Main and Peoria Jailhouse on the National Register of Historic Places
  • Lead efforts to demolish unsightly buildings in Old Town 

Helping the Community – Leading Pandemic Recovery

  • Provided more than 11,000 meals to Peoria families 
  • Distributed more than $700,000 in rent relief and utility relief to Peoria families 
  • Distributed more than $1.2 Million in Federal and State CARES Act funds to Peoria businesses impacted by Covid 
  • Established Small Business Task Force that made over 3,000 calls of support to Peoria businesses during height of pandemic.
  • 19 agencies now operate out of our Community Center to offer aid to residents 

Dedicated to Supporting the Arts – Improving Recreation

  • Ensured Peoria Center for the Performing Arts stayed "covid safe” while providing quality theater during the pandemic
  • Provided 27 different grants to members of our arts community 
  • Invested in Paloma Park, Rio Vista, and Pioneer Park as community parks
  • Improved local parks and added accessible playground equipment for children with special needs 
  • Supported literacy through City Library programs, Friends of the Library, and Little Free Libraries
  • Supported resident-created art coverings for utility boxes at 14 corners in Peoria
  • Supported shade Initiative for parks, trailheads, and pedestrian areas 

Investing in Transportation

  • Extended 83rd Ave. bus line to north Bell Rd. 
  • Opened New Park and Ride with battery changing stations in Old Town 
  • Added Northwest traffic signal at 77th and Peoria Avenue 
  • Built green bike lanes to improve transportation and pedestrian safety 
  • Installed POGO—Peoria on the Go transportation van connecting north and south Peoria
  • Completed critical drainage improvements along 67th Avenue to mitigate flooding and traffic delays 
  • Major renovations to Peoria Main Library completed in January '22.

Protecting Taxpayers

  • No increase to property tax rate for past 20 years 
  • No increase to sales tax rate for past 20 years
  • Supported responsible spending and balanced budgets
  • Committed to keeping our Recycling Program and sought ways to make it pay for itself
